how to share printer though a network

by shaima

Requirements:

In order to print from anywhere in the house, all the computer have to be connected to the same network, which means either connected to the same router by wire or you need to have a wireless network setup in your house. That way all the computers can see each other on the network, otherwise if the computers cannot communicate, then there can’t be any sharing

First step:

First thing I need to make sure all the computers are in the same Workgroup. It mean group of computers that have something in common and can communicate together.

In computer A

Start--Control Panel-- System icon-- Computer Name tab--the Change button at the bottom of the dialog box.

There are two options listed here: I choose workgroup and I type in a name to describe my home network after that click OK and then OK again and Windows will ask to restart the computer for the changes to take effect. Then I do the same step in computer B that I want to connect to the printer. Now all the computers are in the same group.

Step2:

Make the printer available to the other computers on my home (wired or wireless) Ethernet network.

I made it available by doing the following:

In computer A where the printer is connected to I click on Start and then Printers and Faxes:

I see an icon for the printer in the list. Next thing I will do is right-click on the printer icon and select Properties. On the dialog box, select the Sharing tab

I Click the Share this printer radio button and I type in a name for the share name. It’s the name computer B will see when look for the printer.

Step3:

Before I go to computer B I need the computer A name which is connected to the printer to do so I do the following:

Run—I type CMD command – ok

In the Command Prompt window I type in the word “hostname” without the quotes and then Enter:

This is my computer name which I need it when I connect from computer B

Now in computer B

I go to Start and then Printers & Faxes. In the dialog, I click Add a Printer

Then I click next. On the next screen where it asks me what types of printer you want to connect to, I choose (A network printer or a printer attached to another computer” option and I click next.
